From the site owner:

From the site owner:Starting back in 2001 as a local Japanese videos website, this well-known Asian TV videos online portal was launched and running long before Youtube, Veoh, or Metacafe et al. This is one of the web’s very first streaming Asian video websites. Also our new video cast “Asian Music TV” is now currently featured on TiVo worldwide television http://tinyurl.com/csfbgb2. Current special features include Rated R Japanese TV shows, North Korean television segments, Asian music videos, 3D animations, and more as seen on a variety of international and Asian television networks and other internet sites. This independent multimedia gateway has come a very long way, indeed. From a local Japanese videos website loved by many, to being broadcast by several well-known international television networks all around the world.

Zack’s opinion:

I can’t really figure this site out.

A place where Sportz Fans can share photos, news, blogs, videos & much more!

In there own words:

Why should the big sports news sites have all the fun? Introducing SportzHype, a site where you can network, share, and talk about the sports stories that matter to you while tapping into the power of social networks. Here’s why we’re confident SportzHype will be your next online addiction:

All your favorite sports-related stuff from the Web – in one place. The Web is filled with hundreds of sports sites, from ESPN to regional newspapers to team message boards. Who has the time check them all, everyday? With SportzHype, you can consolidate the best stories onto one interface. You can also network with other users, share photos and videos, and chat with fellow fans. It’s easy, it’s addictive, and free. (Think Pinterest, but for sports.)

Sharing is caring. And with SportzHype it’s really easy. Submitting content to SportzHype is a breeze – just install the SportzHype HypeIt button and instantly grab an image, post an article, or share a video. Or you can submit content directly through the SportzHype interface. And sharing to other social networks is even easier. SportzHype is a sports-related social network, and we make it easy for you to share your news on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. Doing so will not only help you find more like-minded fans from around the Web, but attract more visitors to your SportzHype page.

Get compelling content for the teams you like in one place. Tired of going to other sports sites only to spend time trying to find news on your favorite team or athlete? Not anymore. With SportzHype you can create custom “Lists” to track content of your choosing. For example, you can create a list called the “Lakers.” So if you like a piece of Lakers-related content – say, an article on Steve Nash – simply add it to your “Lakers” list. Easy. Similarly, if there are users out there who consistently post great content on the Lakers (or any other team or athlete) you can “Follow” them and receive content from them on an ongoing basis. (Who knows, maybe you’ll discover the next Tony Kornheiser, Michael Wilbon, or Jim Rome.)

Reward good content – and punish spam! Tired of spammers and trolls blowing up message boards? Tired on non-fans dragging down the quality of the conversation? Fed up with having to sift through all the junk? Well, with SportzHype, quality content is rewarded by the community. It’s simple: each user accumulates points as they submit or create content. The more activity, including likes and comments received, the more points are awarded. And the Top Hype section contains, the top hype! Think of all the time you’ll save.

Become the Next Tony Kornheiser, Michael Wilbon, or Jim Rome (your pick.) Sure, it’s cathartic to express your opinions on a sports message board or on the comments section of a Web page, but wouldn’t it better to have a single place for all your opinions? Wouldn’t it be great to engage other sports fans and over time, create a following so people come to your page to find out what you have to say about a team or athlete? Well, wait no longer. Better yet, SportzHype makes it easy to engage with your readers: you can “Watch Post,” so if anyone comments on something you’re having a discussion on, you’ll be notified. So to all novice sports commentators out there: SportzHype is the perfect platform to express your views to the world and build a following.

Zack’s take:

As soon as I saw the homepage I immediately thought: Pinterest for sports. It was a relief to see an admission by the site owner that indeed that is was SportzHype is. I signed up (pretty quick) and started exploring the site. Within the first 5 minutes of exploring the site I saw a few new posts pop up (encouraging sign that people are actually using it). I don’t know if people will stick to it and my fear is that in a few years we’ll see a shift from sports to “sports babes” and the lowest common denominators in the post quality. According to the creators spammy posts are in check by other users and point system ensures relevance. The design is nothing original (Pinterest) but how much can you improve on that anyway? I like the site but have to give it a lower than average score on likelihood success (hope I’m wrong guys).

Mike’s take:

I thought SportzHype was a lot like tumblr with the home page. Good idea making a sports website based on that model. That along with finding the top sports sites and putting them together. As with all new websites, promotion will be key whether this website can become a major site. Keep up the good work guys. Nice plan.

We are an information resource company dedicated to helping guide entrepreneurs through the process of starting a business.

From the site owner: Our website is geared towards providing budding entrepreneurs through the process of starting a business. We provide our readers with information on how to get started on the most basic business functions such as naming your business, registering your domain name, getting a mailing address, setting up a business phone system, etc. We provide startups with all the information on setting up the basics of their business, and providing them with links to vendors, so they don’t have to worry about it and can focus on the bigger picture. We would love for Rainmakers to review our site.

Mike’s Take: Nice website. Simple to the point. It is also updated to cover Google+ information. As far as the future, of this website, I am not too sure. It looks like one tough niche. I think with the professional looking website and from the product offers, they can make a great go of it. The domain name kind of confuses me. Choose What. Not sure what that means as far as ‘guides entrepreneurs through the process of starting a business’. I hope they make it as they look good and have an interesting take on starting a business.

In there own words:

Comunitee.com is the first social news network that reinvents the way users discover and share news online, on mobile devices and tablets. Wake up in the morning and see what your friends are reading, earn badges for becoming an expert in your “Comunitee,” and discover the stories that you and your friends are interested in, all in one place!

Comunitee learns what you like and automatically shares it with your friends and followers. There’s no need to connect your Facebook or Twitter accounts or click Follow, Tweet, Like, and Share for every story you find interesting. Comunitee does all the work behind the scenes and delivers you the most relevant, up-to-date news. Oh yeah, we don’t choose your news topics for you, your news is always your news.

Comunitee News is different for each user based on who you include in your “Comunitee.” You can have a close friend, a coworker or another user from across the country that shares the same love of your favorite celebrities, sports teams or political party.

Comunitee’s organic way of sharing news stories within your “Comunitee” allows for an amazing serendipitous experience. Discovering and discussing new topics is just one of the ways Comunitee will change the way you consume your daily news.

Zack’s take:

So here’s what I think. It’s a cool idea to know what news your friends are reading and share with them what you are reading without the hassle of clicking on social bookmarking buttons. Comunitee made this as simple as it could possibly be. Easy sign-up process, pick your categories (everyone knows how to do that even if they don’t understand why they are doing it) and you are in. Once you are done with registration, then the problem arises…invite your friends. I can just picture my mother asking me…what’s this thing I got on my facebook that you sent. That’s a step I just need to skip altogether but that renders this idea dead. I love the premise just can’t see it going very smoothly. Another issue I had was looking at the news itself within Comunitee, I saw a bunch of repeated headlines. Even though I don’t know if it will take off, overall I give this site a good score because it’s a great new idea.

Mike’s take:

Let’s start with the good. I like the design and love the video on the home page that explains what they offer. The website is easy to use and very simple. The idea itself is really cool. The only issue I see is that my interests do differ a lot from my friends. I would not like them to be subscribed to my news stories. Only a few. I really do want to try it out and see if my opinion changes a little bit.

Review19 is a simple and intuitive Scrum and Kanban project management tool. It has been built for web, creative and software teams.

In their own words:

Review19 is a simple and intuitive project management tool. It is just as suited for teams distributed around the world as it is for colleagues working in the same office.

However it doesn’t try to be a universal, multi-purpose app. Review19 has been built, fine tuned and polished specifically for web, creative and software teams.

To begin you create a project and invite members to your project team. Then you (and your team) can add tickets which can be features, enhancements, bugs or chores. Tickets have a description with optional additional details and one or more sub-tasks. In addition, tickets have a priority and can be assigned to a team member.

On the status board, you see all tickets arranged in columns for backlog, scheduled, in progress and complete. Tickets can be dragged across columns and filters can be applied based on user or ticket type.

Oh by the way, while you do all this, the changes you make are synced real time and your team members can see them and vice-versa. The user interface, built exclusively in HTML5+CSS, keeps this app really simple and intuitive for first time users.

Then there is the “Conference” tab, which lets you engage with your team members with video chats and text chat sessions. The video chat runs in-browser with the flash plugin and doesn’t require any external application be downloaded / installed.

Zack’s take:

Well, the site is ultra-minimalistic if you are not logged on. Singing up was a piece of cake. Logging in was another story. I must have been trying to log on while they were doing some system maintenance so I cannot give a fair assessment.

Mike’s take:

I had a tough time with review19.com. The template is a little too basic. So was the website itself. I would like to see more marketing done on the website and explaining the concept. I believe that is the first time I have ever said that. Most every other time people over market their websites. Review19 under marketed.

We let people collaboratively pool their business contacts & organize them into org charts

In their own words:

From the site owner:Founded in 2011, WikiOrgCharts is a cloud based Social CRM tool that solves one of the last problems in business focused networking; how companies and government agencies are structured. WikiOrgCharts provides access to anyone looking to learn about and share information about company organizational structures.

At WikiOrgCharts, we believe that transparency helps to grow business. Web 2.0 practices such as information sharing, interoperability and collaboration and becoming business practices. Barriers finding non-proprietary business information can cause companies to lose business.

Zack’s take:

Now this is a GREAT idea. People love organizing information…at least I do. Mapping people into organizational charts is really cool and could prove to be useful. The problem is that it’s a new idea and navigating the signup process is not easy if you don’t really know exactly how it all works. I don’t know if I’m alone when I say I hate “allowing apps” in my facebook and linkedin account. I always feel I’m somehow going to get hacked. It would help if the site looked like they invested more in the design…just looks a little amateurish…and the ads at the top are confusing…I know…you gotta make money too. I still don’t see enough value to pay $20/month but I might someday so it’s nice that it’s free to use. This is one of those ideas that should get bought up by linkedin down the road…if so, would be a winner…if not, just a novelty.

Have you ever left a tip for a server, but also wanted to express your happiness, or unhappiness, at the service they provided? The Tip Card provides an easy way for you to do just that! Rate the service you receive and let your friends know how great it was, or help them steer clear. The Tip Card is a new iPhone app that will let you keep track of your service ratings, share them with friends and tell your server why you left them that huge tip (or that measly one).

In their own words:

The Tip Card is a mobile app built for the iPhone that allows users to rate their server experience at a restaurant.

Have you ever left a tip for a server, but also wanted to express your happiness, or unhappiness, at the service they provided? Well now you can. The Tip Card is a vehicle to provide your rating of a server and let others know about it, helping your friends steer clear of a restaurant or a particular server, or encourage them.

The restaurant experience is based on six major interactions with your server. At each of these points we ask you to rate your server’s performance, which results in a total score, which you can then use to calculate tip.

Login through your existing foursquare account, or create a new account through Tip Card.
Locate the restaurant you dined at using GPS in your iPhone.
Enter the date, time and server’s name.
Rate your server based on six major contact points with your server.
Add any comments.
Your rating is uploaded to our database for other users to view.
We also provide a helpful tip calculator which can guide your tipping procedure.

Other features include:

Share your ratings with your friends.
Automatically checkin through foursquare when you rate a server.
Share your rating on Twitter or Facebook.
Share your comments through foursquare’s “to do.”
Search for a restaurant in your are by proximity or cuisine.

Zack’s take:

First things first…you need a Foursquare account. I didn’t have one so it was a bit of a nuisance to get one…but I probably should have done that years ago anyway. Once you download the app, the foursquare integration is kind of funky…if you don’t know about authorizing apps, you won’t know to scroll down the login page on the app to click the button. Anyway, once I got through that the app crashed once. No problem though…that happens to a lot of good apps. Since I didn’t have a foursquare app I didn’t have any dining history to rate and test the app so my review won’t be completely informed. Anyway, the site is pretty straight forward…I don’t like the logo but that’s my problem. As far as the idea goes, I have to be honest, I just wouldn’t bet a lot of money on it. This should be something that Foursquare integrates out of the box in order for it to work. That may be just what the owners are going for but they’ll need a bigger following to get to that stage. I’d like to wish the creators good luck nevertheless.

Valioo is a mobile/web site where consumers review services and products and get donations to support NGOs in exchange.

From the site owner:

We are a Spanish startup and what we want is to create a new way of fundraising for NGOs. The first way we have figured out for doing it is by creating a platform where consumers review many products, services or whatever they want. And, because we know all these reviews and personal data have a great value, users get in exchange a micropayment for the NGO they choose when creating their profiles.
Reviewing with Valioo is really quick and easy: you first search want you want to review on, then you choose the stars with which you want to evaluate it; choose those tags that highlight how you feel about it or also write in 50 characters what you want, and you’re finished!
Where does the money for the donations come from?
What Valioo offers to all the companies is a quality control and marketing tool, a tool that allows them getting feedback from their clients and giving them something in exchange. They can subscribe a free or a pro plan and, whether they choose the one or the other, they have to pay for the reviews of customers. They can fix a minimum of 0.25 € per review. Valioo earns money when companies subscribe the pro plan; we don’t keep anything from the money of the reviews.
The site is available in English and Spanish, so Valioo works anywhere. We are in a starting stage and we are contacting Spanish companies, at first, to use our product. This does not mean that someday, not far from now, it will work in other countries.

Zack’s take:

This is the first time I see this model in action. Fabulous idea. By converting product and service reviews into donations to non-profits, everyone wins. The site still needs to grow beyond the Spanish borders but if it catches on it will be a great example of social entrepreneurship. For this reason alone I really hope the site works out. My suggestion to Valioo… finish translating the site! Anyway, all that aside, the site is intuitive enough to get you signed up and download the iphone app but it took watching the video to understand the model completely. Also it would be helpful if the profile page for the business (restaurants etc…) were a little more complete since the reviews are typically one liners. My only low score is for content but only because the site is new and there aren’t enough NGO’s and businesses yet.

In their own words:

AppGreen is a free mobile catalog builder for iPad, iPhone and Android devices. It replaces paper catalogs by helping people build their unique mobile catalog.

AppGreen creates independent catalog applications on iOS or Android mobile devices and helps users export catalogs to app stores. Users are not required to have technical knowledge about programming.

Customizable templates are provided for the sake of personal need of design.

AppGreen implements cloud technology where users are with unlimited storage capacity. Access to the mobile catalogs is without boundary as long as Internet connection is available.

Zack’s take:

So I wasn’t able to explore the product itself because I need an invite while it’s still in Beta. From the outside it looks like a good idea. Not extremely original but they manage to make the app practical then they might be on to something. My scores are temporary pending a review of the acutal app.

Mike’s take:

I think this is a well planned out website and cool design. The little cartoons of the people that work there is really cool. Kind of like we have for this website! Great minds think a like. I tried to click on the videos to see how this works, but I could not get there. I am not sure too much about this business idea as I am not sure what their product really does. Mobile cataloging? Maybe they can provide some good examples to help people such as myself figure it out better.

With WeVideo, you simply upload your video clips and photos, create your storylines, and edit them in the cloud. Oh, that “cloud thing”, it means the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product. For you that means there’s no software to download. All video story creation takes place in the browser on your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

You can create videos “in the moment” wherever you are, making the process convenient and timely. We also give you full creative control, and we’ve made it really easy. And with WeVideo, you can collaborate with others on video stories. You can co-create the same video or come up with your own unique versions from the clips in your own cloud-based video library. Once created, you can share your video in basic Internet or high-definition quality on the WeVideo site or publish it to your favorite video-sharing, social-networking, or other online site.

Zack’s take:

I was very impressed by this site. Signing up and logging in was very easy – they give you every authentication option you could ask for. Once I created my free account I started making a quick video of my vacation in Ireland. I uploaded a few clips from my computer, added a soundtrack (they even offer a bunch of great free sound clips). Then I added a few cool effects, some text, and voilá! A really professional looking video was done in less than 10 minutes. I actually needed something like this a while ago and was frustrated by every app I downloaded. It is hard to believe that a web based app like this could do a better job ll with drag-and-drop. Truth be told, something crashed at the end and I lost my video so I’m not sure if there’s a bug in the browser (I was using Firefox) or they are still working out some bugs. Anyway, I see a GREAT future for this site, especially if they partner up with sites that need to offer video editing to their users.
